Rice water benefits and how to use it

Rice water is simply the starchy water remaining when you’ve left rice to soak, or after the rice is cooked. It’s believed to have a number of the vitamins and minerals which can be found in rice, including B vitamins, vitamin E, amino acids, minerals and antioxidants. It’s been used as a hair treatment for hundreds of years by women in China, Japan and South-east Asia.

A carbohydrate called inositol, can be found in rice water, it is said to repair damaged hair, and stays in the hair even after you’ve rinsed the rice water off, continuing to protect it from damage. Though unproved, it’s thought that rice water may improve the strength of the hair, reduce hair breakage, increase elasticity and even promote hair growth.

Rice water can be used in place of a conditioner. After washing your hair with a shampoo and rinsed it out, pour the rice water on your hair, make sure to massage it into the scalp and hair and leave it in for up to 20 minutes before rinsing it out with warm water.
