Does trimming natural hair make it grow faster?

I’m trying to grow my hair out, and people keep telling me that trimming it helps. That just sounds counterproductive to me. Won’t trimming just cut off the length I’ve gained? How often should I be trimming, and why?

Hiya, I used to think the same thing but trimming really is beneficial for your overall hair heath. Trimming doesn’t speed up growth, help manage breakage. Regular trims prevent split ends and breakage, helping you retain what you grow.
