How can I straighten my natural hair safely?

I want to wear my natural hair straight every now and then, but I’m really nervous about heat damage. What’s the safest way to straighten natural hair without losing curl pattern or causing breakage?

Always apply a heat protectant before straightening. Use a low-heat blow-dryer and flat iron (preferably ceramic) to prevent heat damage.
