If you are new to braids, you may be wondering, "What are box braids?" Box braids are a classic and timeless braid style that has been around since 3500 B.C. But what exactly are they, and how do you style them? We'll answer all those questions in this post, so stay tuned! What Are Box Braids?
Box braids are individual three-strand plaits that extend from your scalp all the way down the length of your hair. Your hair is parted into equal-sized boxes, and each section of hair within the box is plaited. These equal sections create braids of uniform thickness, giving the style a clean and sophisticated look. The sections can be made larger or smaller, depending on the desired braid thickness. When installing box braids, tight tension is applied throughout the braid to prevent flyaways and loose strands, resulting in a neat and polished finish.

How to Maintain Box Braids?
- Moisturise Your Scalp: Regularly apply a lightweight oil to keep your scalp hydrated and prevent dryness and itchiness. This helps keep your scalp healthy.
- Protect Your Braids While Sleeping: Before bed, wrap your braids in a silk scarf or silk bonnet to minimise frizz and tangles. For more tips on sleeping comfortably with braids, check out our post on "how to sleep with box braids".
