How To Take Out Braids Without Breakage

(Source: Pinterest)

While we love the time spent with our braids, eventually there comes a moment when they need to come out. Braids serve as a great and beautiful protective style, shielding our natural hair. However, if you remove them incorrectly, it can cause more harm than good, leading to scalp and hair stress, breakage, and damage. But fear not! If you're wondering how to take out braids without breakage, you're in the right place. In this post, we'll guide you through a step-by-step process to take down braids and remove braids quickly and without damage.

How To Take Out Braids Without Breakage

What you need:

  • Bottle with water and leave-in conditioner mix
  • Scissors
  • Rattail comb
  1. Spray your hair with water and leave-in conditioner mix
  • Slip is important when taking out your braids to minimise tangles and breakage.
  • Slip makes the removal process easier
  • Remove any accessories such as rings and cuffs at this step

2. Cut each braid

  • If you have extensions, first check where your natural hair ends
  • Cut a few inches below where your natural hair ends to avoid cutting your natural hair accidentally

3. Loosen the braid

  • Gently unravel the braid, working from the bottom to the top, using the tip of a rattail comb
  • You can also use your fingers to detangle the braids
  • Once you've unravelled the braids to your roots, gently pull down the hair extension

4. Repeat these steps for the rest of your braids

5. Detangle your hair

  • Use a wide tooth comb to detangle your hair slowly and gently

6. Aftercare

  • After your removal process, follow up with an aftercare routine
  • Cleanse with a shampoo
  • Condition with a deep conditioner
